Carbon Pricing Will Drive Research

Many say that direct government subsidies are the only way to driver research. But listen to one of the top government lab researches as he's interviewed by the the NY Times.
“I had always thought about biofuels and bioenergy,” Dr. Keasling said, “but there was just no profit in it." NYT
Dr. Jay Keasling is head of the 150-person biofuels lab (JBEI) started under Dr. Chu, the new Sect. of Energy. He went on to name more factors including government funding, but he clearly attached great importance to profitability.
The only way to raise the profitability of all potential biofuels, conservation, solar and all other alternative green energy R&D projects is to raise the price of fossil fuel. Cap or tax carbon.
